CD Review:  It's In Your Face
Review by Douglas Sloan

Featuring two former founding members of the Heavy Metal Horns, Henley Douglas, Jr. and Garret Savluk, The Boston Horns are the latest brass-powered
outfit to hit the Beantown club circuit. However the Boston Horns offer up a much different fare than their Heavy Metal counterparts.

In the new group, the veterans Douglas and Savluk perform a more free form style of jazz, funk, and swing while still preserving a mainstream appeal. Being a
little older definitely equates to being a little wiser as these two seasoned pros offer less vocals and a whole lot of horn playing.

Douglas' sax moans and wails with grizzled authority while Savluk's trumpet playing is among the best this town has to offer. You could say the two have finally
found their zone and decided to play for themselves, but in doing so, they've given those of us hip enough to enjoy their excursions a great deal of listening
pleasure.
