THE BAND

The Boston Horns is a 7-piece funk/jazz/soul band led by founding members Garret Savluk and Jeff Buckridge. The band's compelling mix of funk and jazz has kept them busy performing for clubs, festivals and private events in New England, New York, Montreal, New Orleans and as far away as Tokyo, Japan. Over the course of 20 years, members of the Boston Horns have collaborated and toured with a wide range of artists including Tower of Power, Extreme, Paquito DRivera, Sam Kininger, Johnny A., Shawn Mullins, Greg Piccolo and Susan Tedeschi to name just a few. Garret Savluk

Garret Savluk Trumpet

Garret played his first professional gig at age 15. His intensive study of jazz began in high school where he received many awards including outstanding musician in consecutive years. He won a first place trophy at the Berklee College of Music's High School Jazz Festival (1985) for outstanding Jazz Combo (Art Blakey sextet) which led to a scholarship to attend Berklee. While attending Berklee in the fall of '85 he quickly became one of the top players in the school, performing with the college's elite groups (Herb Pomeroy, Greg Hopkins) and rubbing shoulders with some of the best musicians in the world. Garret was also a two-time recipient of the Maynard Ferguson scholarship for lead trumpet abilities. Soon after moving to Boston, he found himself performing with many great musicians including Boston natives Ricky Ford (Mingus/Ellington) and drumming legend Alan Dawson while he was with the Brandies University Jazz Ensemble. At these rehearsals, Garret met saxophonist Henley Douglas, Jr. (tenor/bari saxophone), a veteran of the Boston Club scene. Together they founded a hire-out horn section known as The Heavy Metal Horns, later to become the legendary band of the same name. During Garret's 10 years with the Heavy Metal Horns, he recorded and helped produce four CDs, did eight national club tours, and performed at countless engagements across the US. HMH recorded with local artists such as the Del Fuegos, and went on a world tour with mega-stars- rock band, Extreme.As a sideman, Garret owns a reputation as one of the premier trumpet players in the region. His resume of live performance includes work with Tower Of Power, Extreme, Paquito DRivera, and countless appearances with various local artists both live and on recordings. His discography includes credits on 20+ CDs.In addition to his extraordinary abilities with the trumpet, Garret is an accomplished writer/arranger, authoring many tunes for the Boston Horns and for Heavy Metal Horns previously. Garret has done extensive arranging for horn sections, including work for Grammy winner Sean Mullins.

Jeff Buckridge

Jeff Buckridge Guitar

Jeff is one of the founding members of the Boston Horns, with the band since its inception in 1999. In addition to handling the guitar duties, he has contributed as a songwriter, with credits on all of theBoston Horns releases. Over the years Buckridge has been involved with several projects outside of the Horns, including gigs as a sideman with KD Bell, Erinn Brown, Jesse Ciamataro, Vykki Vox, Ken Clark, Headshaft, and others. He can also regularly be seen jamming on the North Shore with various BoHo side projects.His guitar style combines rhythm influences, like old school James Brown and New Orleans syncopation ala Leo Nocentelli, and lead guitar influences ranging from Kenny Burrell to Jimi Hendrix. In addition to his guitar playing, Buckridge is a music educator, having earned his Masters Degree in Music Education, and teaches in the town of Andover, MA, where he is the director of theAndover Public School Jazz Band program.

Pete plays all around the Boston/New England/New York area. Nephtaliem McCrary

Nephtaliem McCrary Vocals

Nephtaliem began singing at an early age in the choir at Myrtle Baptist Church in Newton, MA. Not long after, he participated in a Motown Revue portraying Smokey Robinson, where he fell in love with the microphone and stage. Throughout high school he honed his skills forming several bands, performing in musical theater productions, and exploring the depths of psychedelic Funk, Rock, and Soul. In 1995, he landed the lead role in an internationally touring production of Up With People. After traveling around the world for over a year, Nephtaliem returned home to Boston, MA, where the Ska/Funk/Punk/Rock/Soul band EverSinceDayOne was born in 1997. This band was nominated for Boston Music Awards, and placed 2nd out of 800 bands in a National best unsigned band competition. It was during this time that Nephtaliem earned his reputation for being an explosive live performer and front man. He continued performing in Musical theater productions, such as Godspell, and Jesus Christ Superstar, around the Boston area.By the late 90s he had begun singing with bands like 3%, Sugar Daddy, and Michigan Blacksnake where he first met Big Ben Hillman, Henley Douglas Jr. and Garret Savluk. In 2000, he fronted a powerhouse Funk band called The Royal Family with his powerhouse-writer/producer friend Big Ben Hillman and tore it up all over the East coast. Their unique blend of Funk, Soul, and R&B and Nephtaliems dynamic stage performance, led them to local notoriety.In 2003, Nephtaliem formed The Nephrok! Allstars and played with long time friend Sam Kininger, Aaron Bellamy, Nikki Glaspie, Luke Bellamy, Mark Kelley any many other inspiring musicians. Following a great opportunity, he moved to Los Angeles in 2005 where he continued to perform and write music. There, he sang with The House of Vibe Allstars and Chali 2na of Jurassic 5. After a national tour with them on the 2009 Rock The Bells tour, Nephtaliem returned to Boston where he reformed The Nephrok! Allstars and began his career with the legendary Boston Horns.

Ed Spargo, who has been referred to as an MVP among Boston Sidemen by Ted Drozdowski of the Boston Phoenix, has been an integral part of the Boston music scene since the mid-80s. Hes shared his sympathetic accompaniment with artists such as Johnny A., Toni Lynn Washington, Heavy Metal Horns, Greg Piccolo and James Montgomery, to name a few. But it is in his compositions where Spargo really shines. Penning ten of the eleven tunes on his latest CD Playroom, Spargo creates a thrilling journey that will easily withstand frequent listenings for years to come. Squantch

Squantch Trombone

Squantch played his first professional gig when he was fifteen years old, leading his jazz quintet on the bow of a yacht. In the twenty-five years since that occasion, he has performed and toured extensively, playing styles ranging from avant jazz to zydeco, and recorded more than twenty albums. Squantch graduated from Berklee College of Music having studied with Dr. Phil Wilson. At the University of Miami, he studied under Dr. Charles Cambell (Philadelphia Orchestra).Squantch has toured North America and Europe with a variety of bands, including the widely acclaimed jam band Topaz, acid jazz gurus The Groove Collective, and the innovative ska ensemble David Hillyard and the Rocksteady VII. His music was featured on HBO's Sex and the City and The Sopranos, the film Beavis and Butthead Do America, MTVs I'll Bet You Will and in numerous commercials. Tracks recorded for Roger Sanchez, Tortured Soul and Better Daze have become staples in dance clubs around the world.

BHBB

BOSTON HORNS BIG BAND

The Boston Horns Big Band is a 17-piece band comprised of cream of the crop musicians. BHBB plays modern virtuoso big band jazz band, with a dash of be-bop and swing, and a little Latin flair! Their roaring sound has already earned them accolades as one of Boston's hottest big bands.

In 2009, BHBB released their first CD, "Originals: Vol One" featuring compositions by Grammy Award Winners Mark Walker and Oscar Stagnaro.

BHBB and Dwight & Nicole most recently performed at the Salem Jazz and Soul Festival's Annual Spring Gala _ PEM on April 9, 2011.
